Creative Poetry: Future Untold

Okay this is one of those small gems that emerge from a night of introspection and loneliness. Either genius, or rationalisation, either way, it makes me smile every time I read it. The basic question being, just because we have found Utopia, does it mean, everything is perfect? Of course, there are many ways to represent this problem - but as I might have mentioned, I used to be sappy. Very sappy.

Like VERY. Seriously. Read it, if you don't believe me.

In an alternate universe, you and I are together
We lie facing one another
Our fingers intermingle
Till none is left single
And I can sigh in your embrace
And take in every detail of your face

In an alternate universe, distance is nought
And the candle's flame burns bright and hot
Love is no longer hidden
Nor expression forbidden
And the sun rises too soon
And we sleep admiring the moon

In an alternate universe, there is no pain
The world lacks greed, or lust for gain
The currency is a smile
And our riches go on for miles
Utopia built on a dream and a wish
Two souls at peace that have found bliss

In an alternate universe, all is not perfect
Ambition is sated, inspiration is checked
What poems would I write?
What story would sit quite right?
In strife, I can write of utopia
In utopia...?

In an alternate universe, there is an epiphany
Perfection is the end, an exalted destiny
The beauty is in the road we take
The journey we take for our dreams' sake
Our victory will be sweeter when it is earned
When distances are covered and bridges are burnt

In an alternate universe, I reminisce
Of every hidden touch and stolen kiss
Of lone yearnings, and a hundred dreams
An eternity back it all started it seems
I smile at where I lie today
Facing you like everyday
