Creative Poetry: Birds

Much of humanity's drive through the ages has been through a need to learn and understand the world around us. This has defined, and in some ways restricted who we are, as a species as well. The following poem was my way of feeling out the impact of such defining restrictions, and the ease of living without said chain and ball. Hope you like it.

Close your eyes
Feel the texture of silk
Stroke the lines of earthy delight
And the heat of golden milk

Look into the eyes of innocence
Note that glint in that smiling eye
It is hidden behind those pursed lips
It escapes in her smallest sigh

Breathe in the scent of morning dew
Delight in her hopes and wonder
Adore the brimming child within
And chase down every blunder

Bare open the secrets of your heart
Show me the pathway to trust
Blindly she walks into the world
Believing in causes, noble and just

Smile and hold that quivering hand
Press into it your reassurance
For it all might be bad and ugly
But there is love too, in abundance

Who is this but a kindred soul
A friend, a lover, your shadow?
What is it but kindness and camaraderie
Simply a breeze in the meadow.

To think, to define, to comprehend
Is to cage boundless beauty in words
To close your mind; choose to experience
Lets the breeze flow as free as birds.
